2026 Short Play Festival – Submission form and requirements

Submissions for the Port Fairy Theatre Group 2026 Short Play Festival are now open

We invite submissions of short play scripts (up to 20 minutes in length) to be considered for inclusion in its season of short plays, for performance in 2026.

  • The closing date for play submissions is 16th January 2026. Send scripts and submission form to Mary Ewen, pftheatre@gmail.com.
  • Selection of plays will be made by members of the Port Fairy Theatre Group Committee.
  • Plays finally chosen will be offered full production with PFTG May 2026.
  • Writers of scripts selected for performance will be notified by phone or email and will have the option of either directing their own play, or of leaving this to PFTG to organise.

Submission Guidelines

  1. Writers submitting scripts must be able to demonstrate a connection to the Port Fairy or the Southwest Vic region.
  2. Scripts must be the entrant’s original work and must not have been performed elsewhere prior to the 2026 Port Fairy Theatre Group short play season. Plays previously submitted, but not successful, may be resubmitted.
  3. There is no cost to submit a script, and no payment will be made to writers of scripts selected for performance.
  4. A maximum of one script will be accepted from any one writer.
  5. Simple stage sets and plays with four or less actors are encouraged.
  6. Scripts are to be formatted for A4 paper, with reasonable margins, in an easily readable font and point size. Speeches by different characters must be clearly separated. A list of characters and synopsis of play at the start is also requested. Any stage directions should be clearly differentiated from the spoken words.
  7. Pages should be numbered and Word docs preferred but PDF accepted.
  8. Scripts should be accompanied by a completed submission form
  9. Copyright remains with the writer, but permission is given for Port Fairy Theatre Group to perform the play as part of its 2026 short play season. PFTG also reserves the right to record the performances and offer these recordings for sale, with acknowledgement of authorship.
  10. Submission of your script implies acceptance of these conditions.
  11. Contact information supplied by entrants will be treated as confidential.
