Make sure you have your tickets to see the award winning play The Promise, on Saturday 23rd August at 7.00pm at the Port Fairy Lecture Hall in Sackville Street. Doors open at 6.30pm. Complimentary tea and coffee will be available to warm you up.

The play was written by local playwright Ross McCorkell and Lex Waterreus and is performed by Port Fairy Theatre Group members Jonathon Ayers and Jon Clegg. The story explores family relationships and leaves one questioning whether things were ever the way they seemed in the past. The uncovering of painful truths and long buried revelations lead to the question of whether reconciliation is possible or if some rifts are too deep to heal.

As a bonus, there will also be a staged reading of Ross and Lex’s latest play, The Big Party, to get the show started. Tickets available via Trybooking (see poster for link) or at the door.

We look forward to seeing you there.

A young boy has been killed in a knife attack. An inquest into his death is held but will it address the reasons why he died? Just another body was written by local playwright Kath Harper.ย  The play explores his life and death from various viewpoints. Who is right? Will the inquest provide any answers?
Itโ€™s the 1990s and Jamie Lee and Robert are hoping to adopt a child. They have good jobs and a lovely home but will this be enough to overcome judgemental bureaucracy so their wish can be granted? The Interview Room was written by another local playwright, Ross McCorkell.

JUNE

This month sees us busy with final rehearsals for our upcoming Red Tape production on from 14-16th June. If you haven’t got your tickets yet, you need to hurry!

We are also performing a short sketch for the Port Fairy Community Bank’s 10th Anniversary event on 24th June, which will be held at the Reardon Theatre, Bank Street, Port Fairy.

We are also busy planning an information for our upcoming production of The Crimes of the Modern Mariner. This is a verse melodrama written by Peter Haydon and Sian Pretty will be directing it. We will be putting up details of the information session soon, but mark the 23rd June at 3pm in your diaries to come along to hear about the play and be involved in a cold reading if you are interested.

Don’t forget on 22nd July we will be holding our Annual General Meeting and a new committee will be elected. Nomination forms can be obtained from pftheatre@gmail.com.

MAY

Rehearsals for the one act plays are progressing well and it is great to see the casts for both plays really developing their characters. The set build is underway and costumes have been organised.

A small team will work on developing a skit for the Bendigo Bank 10th anniversary celebration in June. This will take place on Monday 24th June at the Reardon Theatre from 5pm. We are seeking interest from anyone who would like a small ‘walk on’ part.

We are also starting to plan our next production The Crimes of the Modern Marniner. This will be performed as part of the Port Fairy Literary Weekend on Sunday 8th September at 3pm. An information session will be held shortly after the Red Tape production and auditions will follow that.

MARCH

March saw a busy month for Port Fairy Theatre Group with our 2 One Act plays selected and auditions held late that month to cast both plays. Our one act play program will be called โ€œRED TAPEโ€ as both plays deal with how red tape can hold up proceedings and impact on social justice.

Rehearsals for both plays started in the first week of April on Tuesday and Wednesday nights and will continue through May and into June.
